Heat pump not heating
Running but blowing cool air? We check the reversing valve, refrigerant charge, outdoor fan, compressor, and thermostat settings.
No heat on a cold morning? We'll diagnose it and give you a flat-rate price before any work starts.
Most Tuscaloosa homes heat with a heat pump, and plenty still run a gas furnace. When either one quits on a cold morning, AirPros sends a technician from right here in town to find the real cause and quote the fix upfront, whether you're North of The River, in Highland Park, or across the Black Warrior in Northport.

What we do
Heat pumps, gas furnaces, air handlers, and the controls that run them.
Running but blowing cool air? We check the reversing valve, refrigerant charge, outdoor fan, compressor, and thermostat settings.
Thick ice that won't clear points to a defrost control, sensor, airflow, or refrigerant problem. We fix the cause, not just the ice.
Heat strips are expensive to run. If EM or AUX heat never shuts off, we find out why the heat pump isn't carrying the load.
Igniters, flame sensors, gas valves, pressure switches, and inducer motors. We diagnose ignition failures and check safety controls.
Turning on and off every few minutes wastes energy and wears parts. We look at airflow, filters, flame sensors, limit switches, and sizing.
Smart and standard thermostats, wiring, and control boards. We make sure your system is getting the right signals.
Weak airflow or cold rooms? We check blower motors, capacitors, filters, and duct restrictions.
A dusty smell at first startup is common. Grinding, banging, or an electrical burning smell is not. Shut the system off and call us.
We diagnose first and give you a flat-rate price before any work starts, so you're never surprised by the bill.

Service area
Our trucks stage out of Tuscaloosa, so most homes inside the city limits see a technician the same day. Here's where we spend our time.
Northport gets the same same-day attention as anywhere else in town — our crews cross the Black Warrior every day.
Older homes on the campus side with aging systems, newer builds off McFarland Boulevard, and everything in between.
We regularly drive out past the city line. If you're inside 20 miles of Tuscaloosa, call and we'll tell you honestly if we're the right fit.

They explained to us what to do in the event of another power outage, and how to reset the system so next time it didn't result in a service call!”
“Air Pros faced some challenges replacing my HVAC, but Bobby Connell went out of the way to get a temp unit so I could remain in my apartment. All fixed now - they did a great job.”
The AirPros Comfort Plan includes a spring cooling and fall heating tune-up every year, plus priority scheduling.
A few things can cause it. During a defrost cycle a heat pump briefly blows cooler air, which is normal and only lasts a few minutes. If it keeps blowing cold, common causes are a thermostat set to cool or fan-only, a stuck reversing valve, low refrigerant from a leak, or a failed outdoor fan or compressor. We'll diagnose the cause and give you a flat-rate price before any work starts.
A light frost on the outdoor coil on cold, damp mornings is normal, and the unit should clear it with a defrost cycle. A unit that stays covered in thick ice, or a solid block of ice on the coil, is not normal. That usually points to a defrost control, sensor, airflow, or refrigerant problem. Turn the system to emergency heat and call us so the compressor isn't damaged.
Emergency or auxiliary heat uses electric heat strips, which cost much more to run than the heat pump itself. It's normal for auxiliary heat to help out briefly on very cold mornings or during defrost. If it's running constantly, or your thermostat shows EM heat all the time, the heat pump may not be carrying the load because of a failed component, low refrigerant, or a thermostat setting. A high power bill is often the first sign.
If the system is over 12 to 15 years old, needs frequent repairs, or the repair cost is more than about 30% of a new system, replacement is often the better long-term move. If it's younger and the repair is reasonable, repairing usually makes sense. We'll give you an honest assessment either way, with no pressure.
Yes. We service all major residential brands of heat pumps, gas furnaces, air handlers, and thermostats.
